Infectious diseases: Incontinence products provide security in case of involuntary loss of urine
Do not forget warm clothing when it is cold outside.
The risk of contracting colds and cystitis increases during the cold winter months. Women who already suffer from stress incontinence are particularly affected. If they catch a cold, constant sneezing or coughing will boost the frequency of involuntary loss of urine.
In most cases bacteria are the trigger of cystitis. Women are more frequently affected than men because they have a relatively short urethra and pathogenic germs can penetrate the bladder more easily. Typical complaints which persons affected suffer from are burning during urination, increased urge micturition and colicky abdominal pains. In addition, a urinary tract infection can temporarily trigger urinary incontinence even in healthy individuals. In any case persons affected should go and see a physician at an early stage.
Cystitis can be prevented for example by: • Keeping the abdomen warm with appropriate clothing on cold days to avoid cooling off. • Ensuring that no bacteria are imported from the anus region into the urinary tract during genital cleansing. • Drinking sufficiently so that the bladder is “flushed“ more frequently. In this manner pathogenic germs are flushed out, making invasion difficult for penetrating bacteria.
Colds are hard to avoid
Colds are among the most frequent illnesses of all. Avoiding them – particularly during cold winter months – is very hard. A strong immune system can help, plus avoiding large gatherings in closed rooms. Women who suffer from stress incontinence and also catch a cold are doubly affected. They not only suffer from the typical symptoms of a cold such as a runny nose, headache, limb pain and abnormal fatigue. They also increasingly lose urine involuntarily due to more frequent sneezing and coughing.
