Elderly skin has special characteristics. Cell and fiber elements shrink, the skin becomes altogether thinner, nutritional disturbances of individual skin elements increase. The moisture and lipid production of sweat and sebaceous glands also declines. This impairs the formation of a protective surface film on the skin. As a result, it becomes more sensitive to external influences. This sensitivity is frequently intensified by illnesses and in isolated cases by taking medicaments. If elderly skin is to remain healthy, it requires especially intensive care with suitable cleansing and care products which are especially adapted to the deficient functions of elderly skin and contain rehydrating substances such as panthenol or active agents such as chamomile.
