Resuscitation / cardiac arrest

Only a few minutes decide between life and death.

If you can no longer feel a pulse on either side of the neck, immediately begin cardiac massage:

Lay the person affected on a hard surface if possible. The first aider is kneeing beside him/her. With the balls of your hand on top of each other, press downwards on the lower breastbone in the direction of the spinal column. Leave the arms stretched out in the process.

In the event of cardiac arrest, resuscitation must be given at the same time. Therefore resuscitation and cardiac massage must be performed alternately.

Cardiac massage
demonstrated
with one first aider
The first aider is alone:

Alternately perform two breaths and 15 heart compressions at a rate of 80 compressions per minute; always begin with resuscitation.

Cardiac massage
demonstrated
with two first aiders
Two first aiders:

Begin with two breaths; then administer five heart compressions by the first aider (rate also 80 compressions per minute) and one breath by the second first aider; check pulse at intervals of approx. one minute.

Heart-lung resuscitation is extremely difficult to do properly and should really be learned at a first aid course!
