The company takes its first step down the road of international expansion with a subsidiary in Pavia/Italy, the first of many spearheaded by Paul Hartmann Jr. who assumed management of the family-owned enterprise in the mid-1880s. The network expands to include production facilities in Hohenelbe/Bohemia (1883) and Barcelona (1888) as well as sales offices in Paris (1884), London (1887), New York (1889), and Brussels (1891).
