The purpose of the HARTMANN GROUP’s environmental protection unit is to prevent environmental pollution or to minimize any damage without delay. Preventative measures for environmental protection and attention to measures relating to construction, plant engineering and organization from an early stage help us to implement this objective at every single site.
International certification
As a globally active company, the HARTMANN GROUP is in the public eye. We have therefore had our environmental protection management tested by independent organizations using international standards. Since 1996 HARTMANN GROUP has been submitting its production sites to certification in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard and/or validation under the terms of the EU eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS) guidelines. To date, 19 European sites have been tested and recognized by independent auditors using these criteria. The HARTMANN GROUP thus boasts an effective tool for guaranteeing and continuing to improve environmental protection. The recognition we receive for working in accordance with internationally recognized standards also impacts positively on matters such as tender proposals, contract negotiations and insurance premiums.
Environmental protection officers
So that environmental protection management can be implemented locally at every HARTMANN GROUP site an environmental protection officer is appointed and trained up as appropriate. Staff fulfil these functions in addition to their regular daytime jobs, coordinating, checking and monitoring environmental protection, pollution control, water protection, waste management and hazardous materials locally, directly on site. The environmental protection officers’ responsibilities include, for example, establishing a local environmental management system, organizing training courses on the subject of environmental protection and being involved in the development and introduction of environmentally-friendly processes and products. They have extensive reporting duties, have a say in environmental protection-related matters and act in an advisory capacity to the Board of Management, general company management and warehouse management.
